Thu 15th Aug - Komdo Grading

This week has been particularly tiring as due to Friday (today, 16th) being Korean independance day (liberation of Korea from Japanese rule in 1945) I had Korean language class mon - thu (wed usually is a day off) and went to Komdo class every day as well. Since I've now been allowed to train wearing the full armour (kindly lent by our instructor - costs about £250 to buy) the training sessions are spectacularly hard. I've always done lots of physical activities before such as mountain biking, running, swimming, weight training, Taekwondo etc but Komdo has been the hardest cardio excersize I've ever done. Taekwondo with Tony Sewell came about the closest to levels of knackeredness with multiple partner sparring etc but it wasn't as hard as this.

Thursday was grading day and I was able to take my first grading. Tina has been going to training every day too but as she is planning on changing to the swimming class after this month she didn't bother with the grading. Tina has been very good to me by setting everything up and going along to training with me even though she's not too bothered about learning Komdo. I literally couldn't have done it without her!
I believe there are 6 grading before dan level. In the photo's you can see the higher levels grading whilst we wait our turn. At this first grading, we don't have to do any sparring with the armour (normally you would wait 3 months minimum before even buying it).
The grading went quite well but I did slip up a couple of times as I couldn't always tell exactly what he'd asked us to do! but I don't think it mattered too much. After all I'm the first foreigner that's ever been to the club so hopefully they don't mind me struggling to understand their Korean.
